A tool to see which products in your catalog ChatGPT recommends

Updated · Semantico

To see which products in your catalog ChatGPT recommends, you need a tool that asks it your customers' buying questions and records what it answers. Semantico is one. It asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini those questions, shows you which answers name you and which name another store, which of your pages get cited as sources, and lets you read the full answer. Semantico is a software tool with a team behind it in Barcelona, and we measure in the US, the UK and Spain.

How it works: from the buying question to the answer you show up in

Semantico asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the questions your customers ask before they buy, several times each, and records which stores and brands they name and which pages they cite. That shows you which answers you appear in, and with which of your pages.

  1. We pick the questions. Real buying questions from your categories, like "women's trail running shoes with good grip in mud", plus any you want to add.
  2. We ask them from your market. Through each assistant's API, with web search on, in the country and language you sell in.
  3. We ask each question several times. The same question gets different answers from one run to the next. We only report changes bigger than that normal variation.
  4. We record mentions and sources. Which stores and brands appear, in what position, and which sites the assistant cites to back its answer.

The dashboard lists every page of yours that AI cites: product pages, category pages or guides. Tap one to see which answers it shows up in, then open the full answer to read what the assistant said and who else it recommended.

Cited sources also tell you where to act. If the assistant leans on another store's product page or a third-party guide to recommend a product, that's your gap. Every lost question becomes an action with an owner, and after each fix we track the question daily to check whether the answer changes.

One caveat: we measure through the APIs. The app your customer uses may give slightly different answers.

How to tell whether your catalog can show up in ChatGPT's recommendations

For ChatGPT to recommend one of your products, it has to be able to read the product page and find the detail the question asks for. Before you measure anything, check these five things in your product pages and feeds.

What to checkHow to check it
Its crawler can get inOpen your /robots.txt and make sure you don't block OAI-SearchBot, by name or with a blanket Disallow.
The content is in the HTMLOpen a product page, view the source and look for the price and attributes. If they load with JavaScript, the crawler probably can't see them.
There's structured product dataschema.org Product markup with name, brand, GTIN and an offer with price and availability.
The GTIN is validIt's what tells machines your product is the same one the reviews and comparisons talk about. You can check it with our free GTIN validator.
The attributes answer the questionThe ones people ask about in each category (weight, dimensions, material, what it's for), written out, with the same values across every product.

What about product feeds? Your feed should say the same as the product page: same name, same GTIN, same price and same availability. If the feed and the page disagree, the assistant can't trust either.

Two rules of thumb. First, the detail has to be written out, not just shown in a photo or a brand PDF. Second, it has to be on every product in the category. If only three of your forty padel rackets state their balance, as far as the assistant can tell, your store doesn't know padel rackets. We walk through an example in how to optimize your product pages for AI.

And a caveat: complete product pages are the base, but they're not enough. In our October 2026 study of sports retail, 54 of 54 store citations on product questions went to buying guides, not product pages. The two reinforce each other.

If many of your product pages are missing data, our catalog builder fills in attributes, descriptions and translations across a whole category.

Common questions

What tool tells me which products in my catalog ChatGPT recommends?

An AI visibility tool like Semantico. It asks ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini the buying questions in your categories and shows you which answers name you, which of your pages they cite and which stores show up instead of you.

Can I see the answer my product appears in?

Yes. From each cited page you can open the assistant's full answer and see what it said and who else it recommended.

What should I check in my product pages so ChatGPT can recommend them?

That its crawler can get in, that price and attributes are in the HTML, that there's structured product data with a valid GTIN, and that every page has the attributes people ask about in its category.

Do you need access to my store?

No. We only use your public site, visible product data and your robots.txt.

Which assistants do you measure?

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini on the store plans. We don't measure Google AI Overviews yet.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my products?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Nobody controls what an assistant answers. What we do is measure it, tell you what to change and check whether the change moved the answer.
